Why for god’s sake is Keyshot linking colors? It’s the most useless feature. On top of that, the warning simply doesn’t work. Why is there no unlink function? Is there a way to stop this?
I like to save swatches, but then change them based on my need, but KS applies the modification to ALL FREAKING Colors that use that swatch. It drives me crazy
STOP LINKING COLORS
Hello Lucas,
I’m sorry to hear your frustration with the color linking.
What version of KeyShot are you experiencing this in? We’ve tried to make some improvements in this regard, but i want to know if the issue still persists in the current version.
-
To unlink a color you should be able to press this button in the color picker, (Though i agree it might not seem so intuitive
). Let me know if that doesn’t work.

Regarding the warning, does it not show up or is it not working as expected? To disable linking entirely, have you tried pressing the “Don’t Show Again” checkbox and then “No” in the linking dialog?
If the dialog is not showing anymore you can get it back by going to “Preferences” -> “General” -> and then “Restore All Messages and Warnings”. -
Do note that the “Scene Colors” in the color picker links colors without any warning messages. The warnings only comes when a new color is being made and a conflict arises (e.g naming).
Hope this helps
Honestly I find this quite annoying but I’ve not updated (version 2023.3), So I aplogise if this post is redundant.
I have one a few brand colours I tend to use that are saved but sometimes need to mock up some variations. To me it feels like it then wants to save the colour or overwrite it, which is what I don’t want:
Above I have selected the orange firstly, changed it to a lighter colour, then clicked back on the orange again.
The other annoying thing is that is I have a white black or grey colour picked I cant use the side colour bar:
First I have to change it to have some sort of colour mix then I can select somewhere else on the colour wheel highlighted, or it will snap back to in this case red.
I can certainly see why it feels like it wants to overwrite the swatch color; I think it might be a bug. I suspect that KeyShot thinks you’re creating a new color with the name Orange which already exists in the scene but with a different hue, and therefore tries to handle the conflict. In any case i don’t think it can actually overwrite the swatch color, although the message might indicate otherwise.
Ill file a bug report on that one, thanks!
The Hue color slider bug i believe was fixed in 2024.1
Ahh I’ve been lazy on updating, I will do that thanks.
Thank you! I figured out that the + symbol fixes the issue. It is not the most intuitive way but it get’s the job done. Attributing a meaningful name to the color helps as well. I understand that sometimes the color linking is indeed useful. Anyways, thanks a lot for taking the time to clarify this!
